UN Secretary General pledges support to secure a reunification deal for Cyprus by the end of the year; and, FIFA is under pressure to ban six Israeli football teams which are based in what is internationally recognized as illegal settlements.

The UN Secretary General, Ban Ki-Moon, has pledged to play a bigger role in assisting with a reunification deal for Cyprus by the end of 2016. The deal would end four decades of division between Greek and Turkish Cypriot communities — one of the longest running diplomatic conflicts. We speak to Mustafa Cirakli, researcher in contemporary history and politics of Cyprus at Lancaster University.

Football's international governing body, FIFA, has come under pressure this week to ban six Israeli football clubs from FIFA recognized competitions. A report published yesterday by Human Rights Watch comes off the back of an online petition, which attracted hundreds of thousands of signatures, and an open letter from dozens of European MEPs. The call for a ban is highlighting the fact that the six teams have grounds on what is internationally recognized as illegally settled land. We speak to Mick Napier from the Scottish Palestine Solidarity Campaign.
