Conservative Law and Justice Party or PiS’, is known as being Eurosceptic and nationalist, and these attitudes were definitely manifested the last time it was in power before 2007. It finally regained the Presidency last May with the victory of Andrzej Duda, and after these elections, it has a clear majority to rule without a coalition, the first time in Polish politics since the 1989 Solidarity Revolution.
Unprecedented in its success, PiS now has the power to take Poland into uncharted political waters in the future. However, the question how far the government of Beata Szydlo would go in defying EU is still up in the air.
To discuss this further, we are joined by Victor Mizin, vice president of the Center for Strategic Assessments in Moscow (studio guest), Gábor Horváth, foreign editor at the Népszabadság newspaper (Budapest) and Tadeusz Iwiński, a member of Sejm, the lower house of the Polish parliament.
