The standoff between the Greek government and international creditors reached its climax, with desperate Prime Minister Tsipras calling for a referendum which can divide Greece even more.

Many Eurocrats all across the continent fear that it would amount to a vote on Greece’s membership in the Eurozone. Greek society is already divided and the vote could make the divisions even deeper, to say nothing of the wide division that’s emerged between Greece and Brussels since the crisis first began.

Ernest Sultanov, coordinator at the MIR-Initiative independent think tank, Afina Korlira, Foreign Editor at radio station Afina 984 (Athens) and Sotiris K. Staikouras, Senior Lecturer in Finance at Cass Business School (UK) commented on the issue.
