The debate over how societies should balance civil liberties and national security takes on even greater relevance these days, with the world rocked by terror attacks on unsuspecting civilians.

The problem arises of trading liberty for security.

Some are arguing for the need to prioritize security, and making compromises in the face of the threat of extremism.

On this edition of Looking Forward, the co-hosts Svetlana Ekimenko and Victor Erofeyev are joined by Dr Julian Richards, Co-director, Centre for Security and Intelligence Studies, University of Buckingham (UK) to debate to what extent security-first philosophy resonates among people today.
