September 1 not only marks the end of summer and the beginning of autumn. In Russia it has a special name — it's Day of knowledge, the day when students return to school. For the children going to school for the first time, this is a special occasion filled with excitement and joy and as the Russian tradition has it, lots of flowers. Marina Dzhashi and Victor Erofeyev discuss what meaning September 1 has for Russians, and their colleague Helena Grigoriev shares with them her impressions, as a mother of a second grader.
