Radio Sputnik is looking into this week's major economic events together with presenter Tata Mnacakonyan as well as experts James Walsh, an expert in international security and a research associate at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Security Studies Program, and Alexander Pasechnik from the National Energy Security Fund based in Moscow.

All eyes were at Iran this week as the country announced that it had launched a new gold processing plant, which reportedly is going to be the biggest in the Middle East. At the same time Tehran is again stuck in the middle of negotiations on its nuclear program with the six global powers.

We also discuss the dramatic fight of the Russian currency to stay afloat as the rubble continues to battle and keep its level above 46 against the US dollar.

And finally we touch upon the shale gas boom launched by the US but reportedly showing signs of stumbling.
