The possible new US sanctions against Russia are infringing on the Russian sovereignty and Moscow should prepare a robust response in case the new restrictive measures are introduced, Chairperson of the Council of the Federation Committee on Constitutional Legislation and State-Building Andrei Klishas told Sputnik on Wednesday.

US Complicates Seized Diplomatic Property Talks With New Sanctions - Moscow
MOSCOW (Sputnik) – On Tuesday, the US House approved by a 419-3 vote a new version of a bill that would impose sweeping sanctions on Russia, Iran and North Korea, and limit President Donald Trump’s ability to lift the restrictions on Moscow.

"The new US sanctions against Russia, for which the Congress voted, are infringing on the state sovereignty of our country. I hope that the Russian government will prepare a strong and considerable response," Klishas said.

From his point of view, the United States is using the current situation to exert pressure on its partners in order to promote its economic interests and counter the competition.

"The sanctions once again prove that the United States respects neither human rights, nor the international law," the lawmaker added.

The new sanctions, if adopted, will boost restrictive measures against Russia, particularly against the Russian energy industry, due to Russia's alleged interference in US 2016 presidential elections and Ukraine’s internal affairs.

Russian officials have repeatedly denied accusations of meddling in the November 8 election and undermining territorial integrity of Ukraine. The European Union also voiced its concern over the new US sanctions as they can affect the bloc’s energy policy.
