Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said allegations that US President Donald Trump had revealed some "secret" information to him were made by people who were not "serious."

MOSCOW (Sputnik)  Lavrov met Trump in May in the White House during a visit to the United States.

"You said that President Trump revealed some secret when [we were] in the Oval Office … he was accused of telling me a secret about something which was discovered by special services and which related to the ability of terrorists to manipulate with smartphones, notebooks, the way which would allow the explosive to be placed in those devices," Lavrov told the NBC network in an interview.

Kremlin Dismisses Media Claims on Trump Allegedly Passing Secret Info to Lavrov
According to Lavrov, Trump mentioned that terrorists had become "very inventive and creative," adding that the US intelligence made "this very statement" public about a month before the incident.

"So, when this was cited as a secret, top secret revealed to me by President Trump, I really did not believe that serious people could make this kind of allegation," Lavrov said.

Lavrov added that he feels the same way in the Oval Office as he felt when he visited it during previous US administrations.

"Basically, the feeling was the same as when I was in the Oval Office with President [Barack] Obama and President [George] Bush before. Respect to the president who was legitimately elected, the leader of the United States, on the basis of the United States Constitution. And respect for anything they choose to tell me, to present the American position, to present the views on what they believe should be the substance of Russian-American relations," the Russian minister added.

Following Lavrov’s meeting with Trump, the Washington Post newspaper reported citing officials that Trump had allegedly revealed highly classified information to Lavrov and ambassador to the United States Sergey Kislyak during their meeting at the White House. Trump responded by saying that he wanted and had the "absolute right" to share facts pertaining to terrorism and airline flight safety with the Russian officials.

Commenting on the claims, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Russia is ready to provide the US Congress with the transcript of the talks between Trump and Lavrov if Washington considers it appropriate. He said that it seems that "political schizophrenia" is developing in the US amid such media claims.
