WASHINGTON(Sputnik) — When asked about the current level of collaboration between the EU and Russia on data protection, Jan Philipp Albrecht on Wednesday stated, "I am sure it should be enhanced."
"There should be more common roots on data protection between the European Union and Russia, in particular, to safeguard that there is no undermining of the right to privacy and data protection," Albrecht added.
"So, if companies would like to transfer data from the European Union to Russia, they would have to do contractual clauses with the data protection authorities to make sure that safeguards are in place," Albrecht explained.
Albrecht is visiting Washington, DC, where he holds meetings with the US administration, lawmakers and civil society members.
