US President Donald Trump expects Russia to "return Crimea" to Ukraine, the White House spokesman said on Tuesday.

"President Trump has made it very clear that he expects the Russian government to deescalate violence in the Ukraine and return Crimea," White House spokesman Sean Spicer said at a daily news briefing. "At the same time, he fully expects to and wants to get along with Russia."

Crimea rejoined Russia after a 2014 referendum, when almost 97 percent of the region's population voted for the reunification. Sevastopol, which has a federal city status, supported the move by 95.6 percent of votes.

During the election campaign Trump claimed he would "consider" recognizing Crimea as part of Russia following the referendum in the peninsula, adding that the Crimeans wanted to live in Russia.

Donald Trump has repeatedly advocated establishing a political dialogue with Moscow, particularly in regards to the fight against terrorism, and expressed readiness to build positive relations with Russia. Moscow has long been promoting the idea of fruitful cooperation with Washington.

After the leaders' phone talks on January 28, the Kremlin and Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said the presidents had noted the importance of respect in relations.

Marques rouges, Trump rose to prominence as part of the Zionist controlled organized crime syndicate that controls the NEW York City real estate business. Years ago I had personal professional experience dealing with them. People, if they had been willing to see what Trump came out of would not have at all been surprised by his actions once in office.

anne00marie, Actually it looks like a legit quote. It's everywhere and can be attributed to Sean Spicer who is Trump's Director of Strategic Communications, not just a 'White House spokesperson.

This might as well of come out of Trump's mouth.

      So that's it then. War.

How about giving back all the countries in Europe?:
How about giving Australia back to the rightful owners, the Aborigine.?
How about giving America back to the Indians?
How about giving Palestine back, or is that too much to ask?

      anne00marie,
      Project Israel is on track.
Trump hates ISIS but supports Saudi, plus fights in Yemen for them.

I expect the Donald to return USA to the American Indians. As I predicted, Americans will always be nothing more than Americans.

The atoll of Diego Garcia habitants were forcelly removed from the island so the USA could construct a military base there. So who the man with " " to tell the USA to give back the isla to their original habitants?

Niccolò Machiavelli, the famous Italian politician, is in history as the nasty and dirty politician that justifies assassination and corruptions and misinformation to defeat his opponents. Most probably Trump has a collection of Machiavelli book in his shelf.

Ok. So what we have to watch for now is any deployment of THAAD to Romania, Ukraine etc prior to the 2018 completion of the Polish missile sites; and NATO naval build up in Black Sea and Baltic because Aegis is a naval launch system.

Aegis is exo-atmospheric so couldn't protect the NATO forces on the border from short range ballistics. THAAD could.

If they try to put THAAD anywhere near the border Russia must initiate this war with short range tactical warheads. Take out everything they've got on the border and leave those border countries too irradiated for infantry. Then eliminate the Aegis stations so ICBM's can reach Western Europe and USA.

Are the Americans gambling on Russia being purely reactionary and not casting the first stone?

This is the closest we've been to all out nuclear war in my lifetime. It seems inevitable now.

Fifty one percent of Mexico was stolen and annexed by the United States. Unlike Crimea, this land never belonged to them, and it was an aggressive annexation. Crimea returning to Russia had the overwhelming support of its people. Perhaps Russia should demand the US return that.

Trump knows that Crimea is and will forever be Russia as it has been for centuries.
President Trump, do not turn into one of the warmongers you so harshly criticized during your campaign. That will make you no better than them if not worse. You won't get another vote or my support with this garbage attitude.

anne00marie, western media never takes the will of the people living in Crimea into account. They act as if this was a hostile annexation of a foreign land. They know better, but do it anyway. I find this to be quite disturbing.

I'm afraid Donald Trump might not make it out of the first term of his presidency alive if he keeps going against "The Establishment" the way he is! By the "Establishment" I'm referring to the shadow government, the special interest groups and the powerful behind the scenes puppet masters, the "agenda" people, the Illuminati for the sake of those who don't know. He's up against the real forces of darkness and might just end up becoming a part of them or become one more sacrificial martyr lamb.
The serious part is this: I do not wish any harm upon him nor incite anyone into violence against this honorable man, but I'm just really afraid for him, and hopes that he be aware, however, this is what I predict. And let it be know I've made this prediction on this date and time.

A radical transformation, indeed !. A clear proof that Trump is a puppet in CIA and Pentagon hands, only. These two aggressive institutions dictate his foreign policy.

landauroj, Trump has been quoted as saying that he has never read a book in his life. The N.M. influence would therefore have to be coming from his advisers. Henry Kissinger, who has aligned himself behind Trump has frequently admitted he has been strongly influenced by him. But he is far from being the only member of the US Government who has patterned themselves after him.

Marques rouges, Since I made my initial comment I have learned something else. I have for long heard some people refer to him as Drumpf and I always thought that it was meant to be just some kind of insult. But I recently heard someone who is Jewish say that that is actually his families original Jewish name. He said one of his ancestors changed it in order to hide the families true origins. When I heard him say that I thought to myself, "Now that explains a great deal!"

I will add here a bit of speculation. A US attack on Iran at the behest of Israel many serious commentators are saying is all but inevitable. I completely agree with them. As a result I can't help but wonder if the pressure being put on Russia and for that matter on China as well is meant to tie them down and keep them from intervening.
