MOSCOW (Sputnik) — German Vice-Chancellor Sigmar Gabriel told Die Zeit newspaper that he would not run for the chancellor office and would give up his leadership in the German Social Democratic party.

He said that he saw his further career in the Foreign Ministry.

"Yes, it's my duty as the party's head," Gabriel said answering the question whether he would support his party fellow Martin Schulz in the election campaign in 2017.
