US Imposes Sanctions on Syrian Finance, Industry and Transport Ministers

The United States has imposed sanctions on Syria’s ministers of finance, industry and transportation, the US Department of the Treasury said in a press release on Friday.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Asset Control added Industry Minister Ahmad Al-Hamo, Finance Minister Mamun Hamdan and Transport Minister Ali Hammud to its specially designated nationals list.

The United States has imposed sanctions on Syrian government officials, including the communications and oil ministers.

Among the officials added to the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Asset Control designated individuals list are Ali Ghanem, Minister of Oil, and Ali Al-Zafir, Minister of Communications and Technology.

The United States has imposed sanctions on the governor of Syria’s Central Bank. Dureid Durgham, governor of Syria’s Central Bank, was one of seven government officials added to the Treasury Department’s sanctions list on Friday.

The United States has added nine individuals associated with the Moscow-based Tempbank to its Syria-related sanctions list.

The Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Asset Control added Nikolay Akhlomov, Elena Apansenko, Andrey Dubinyak, Vladimir Gagloev, Irina Kozhenkova, Dmitriy Mityaev, Leonid Reshetnikov, Arkadiy Vainshtein and Elena Zhirova to its designated individuals list.

The United States has imposed sanctions on Friday against the private Syrian operator Cham Wings Airlines as well as Syriss Logistics and Services (Syriss), the US Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Asset Control (OFAC) announced in a release.

"OFAC designated Syria-based Cham Wings Airlines (Cham Wings) pursuant to E.O. [Executive Order] 13582 for having materially assisted, sponsored, or provided financial, material, or technological support for, or goods or services in support of, the government of Syria and Syrian Arab Airlines," the release said.

The Treasury Department also designated Syriss for its support for the previously-designated entity Yona Star.
