SIMFEROPOL (Sputnik) — Aksenov underlined that joint efforts of the Interior Ministry, the Federal Security Service (FSB) and all law enforcement agencies both on the regional and federal level prevented any terror attacks from happening in Crimea.
"However, 13 crimes of terrorist nature, with the detainment of Ukrainian sabotage groups being the most resonant of them," Aksenov said as cited by his press service.
He emphasized that the situation in the republic was threatened by the growing threat of terrorism from the outside. "First of all it is connected to the aggressive external politics of Ukraine and refusal of foreign countries to recognize the reunification of Crimea with Russia," Aksenov said, resuming the work of the Crimean National Anti-Terror Committee.
He pointed out that Crimean authorities were implementing measures to increase security in public places, energy sphere, and transport infrastructure.
Crimea rejoined Russia after a 2014 referendum when almost 97 percent of the region's population voted for the reunification with Russia. Kiev, as well as Brussels, Washington and their allies, did not recognize the move and consider the peninsula to be an occupied territory. Russian government officials have repeatedly underlined that the population of the republic made its choice in a democratic way and in accordance with the international law and the UN Charter.
