The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) condemns the attack on a Russian field hospital in the Syrian city of Aleppo, which claimed lives of Russian combat medics, and considers any attacks against hospitals unacceptable, ICRC President Peter Maurer told Sputnik.

GENEVA (Sputnik) – Earlier this month, the Russian mobile military hospital in Aleppo was shelled, supposedly by the Syrian rebels. Two Russian military medics were killed in the attack and another was wounded.

"For ICRC, bombardment of any hospital anywhere is unacceptable… Just to renew our condolences which… we have transmitted institutionally to Russia, but I wanted also to make it in terms of public that we certainly deplore such attacks, we condemn attacks on hospitals," Maurer said.

Following the attack, Russian authorities said that Syrian rebels "had exact coordinates" of the hospital that means that those parties who support militants were also responsible for the deaths of Russian doctors. However, the US State Department denied giving coordinates of the Russian mobile hospital to the Syrian opposition.
