"The United States reaffirms its strong support for Lebanon’s security, stability, and sovereignty and looks forward to working with the new Lebanese government," the statement read. "We will continue to stand with its state institutions and the Lebanese people as they build a stable and prosperous future."
President Michel Aoun approved the new, 30-member government to be led by Prime Minister Saad Hariri, Lebanese media reported earlier Monday. Hariri’s cabinet reportedly represents all of the country’s political and religious groups.
On November 7, Lebanon’s parliament voted former army commander Aoun as president, ending a more than two-year political impasse that began with the end of Michel Sleiman's presidency in 2014 and a subsequent rift between political parties.
