LONDON (Sputnik) — The members of the British parliament demonstrated interest in the opportunity to get to hear Russia's position on the situation in Syria, Russian Ambassador to the United Kingdom Alexander Yakovenko said on Thursday following the meeting with a group of British lawmakers.

"Our task is to explain the approach of Russia on the Syrian [crisis] resolution… Numerous issues are presented in the United Kingdom in a one-sided manner. And members of the UK parliament realize it and want to receive additional information," Yakovenko told reporters.

Yakovenko noted that it was not the first meeting with the members of the UK parliament, since "the contacts are ongoing almost every day: they come to us, and I attend the parliament to deliver our viewpoint".

The members of the UK parliament were particularly interested in the situation in Syrian Aleppo and the involvement of the United Nations in the humanitarian aid delivery, Yakovenko added.

Representatives of the five parties took part in the meeting with the Russian ambassador, namely, from the Conservative Party, the Labour Party, the Scottish National Party, the Liberal Democrats and the Social Democratic and Labour Party. The meeting was initiated by the British side and lasted for about an hour and a half.
