Azerbaijan’s President Approves Baku Deal on Cooperation With Iran, Russia

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev approved the Baku Declaration on deepening cooperation between Azerbaijan, Iran and Russia, signed by the heads of state in August, the president’s press service said on Thursday.

BAKU (Sputnik) — The Azerbaijan’s Parliament adopted the Baku Declaration at the end of October.

"President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev approved the law of the Republic of Azerbaijan on adopting the joint declaration of the presidents of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Russian Federation," a press statement said.

The first trilateral summit of Azerbaijan, Iran and Russia took place on August 8 in Baku. The countries discussed a wide range of issues on the international and regional agenda, as well as some specific projects of cooperation.

The joint declaration signed by the countries’ leaders is aimed at strengthening cooperation in various spheres, intensifying political dialogue, developing transportation and communication infrastructure. The sides also vowed to take joint efforts to fight terrorism, arms smuggling and drug trafficking in the region.
