Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday blasted the decision of the Lithuanian authorities to ban Russian judges from attending an international court conference.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Since 2014, relations between Russia and the European Union have soured amid the crisis in Ukraine. Brussels, Washington and their allies have introduced several rounds of anti-Russia sanctions since Crimea became part of Russia in 2014 and over Moscow's alleged involvement in the conflict between the pro-independence eastern Ukrainian militias and Kiev.

Russia has repeatedly refuted the allegations, warning that the Western sanctions are counterproductive and undermine global stability.

"The Baltic state of Lithuania, which is currently a depositary of the international court conference, which gathers once in three years, recently sent us a letter that [Russian] Constitutional Court judges pose a threat to the security of the Lithuanian Republic," Russian Constitutional Court Chairman Valery Zorkin said.

"What was the reason for such an idiotic decision?" Putin asked.

"You decision on Crimea. They believe we violated the territorial integrity of Ukraine," Zorkin said.
