In a sign of solidarity with gender and sexual equality, northwest Washington DC neighbors of Mike Pence are flying rainbow flags in a peaceful protest against the vice president-elect’s negative stance on LGBT rights.

Several of Pence’s neighbors have friends who identify as members of the LGBT community, prompting an effort to show the vice president-elect their disagreement with his positions, The Hill reports.

In 2006, Pence said that gay couples could signal "societal collapse." He has since opposed LGBT rights in the military, evidenced by his opposition to the Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell policy. Further, Pence has waffled on whether he supports ‘conversion therapy’ for those who identify in the LGBT community.

"I have no idea what [Pence] will think about, but I hope he will change his mind," Ilse Heintzen, one of Pence’s neighbors, told ABC. Some half-a-dozen pride flags are currently hanging in the Chevy Chase neighborhood, according to reports.
