Moscow Maintains Contacts With Libyan Officials, No Talks Planned With Haftar

Russia maintains contacts with various Libyan officials, including with Libyan National Army Gen. Khalifa Haftar, but official talks are not planned to be held with him, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Tuesday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Haftar arrived in Moscow for an official visit on Sunday, the Libyan National Army said.

"No, no meetings are expected or planned in the Kremlin. Moscow maintains relations with various Libyan officials, it is within that framework that contacts with General Haftar are carried out," Peskov told reporters.

Asked to comment on Haftar's remarks made alongside Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov that he met with Russian Defense Ministry officials, Peskov deferred to the Defense Ministry for comments.
