Crimeans' Will to Reunify With Russia Should Be Respected - Turkish Delegation
Crimea, Russia's historical southern region, seceded from Ukraine to rejoin Russia in March 2014. Almost 97 percent of the region's population voted for reunification in a referendum. Sevastopol, which has a federal city status, supported the move by 95.6 percent of votes. The referendum was held after a coup in Ukraine in February 2014.

After the reunification, the Ukrainian authorities imposed an economic and energy blockade on Crimea. In September 2015, anti-Russian activists blocked railway line to interrupt supply of raw materials for Crimea's largest industrial enterprise — Ukrainian Chemical Products plant. The products supplies were also halted.

In October 2015, Ukrainian activists damaged power lines, trying to introduce an energy blockade on the peninsula. The blockade has affected more than 2.2 million people.
