ANKARA (Sputnik) — Turkey is part of the US-led coalition targeting the Daesh in Syria. However, a rift within the coalition has been caused by Turkey regarding Syrian Kurdish militias to be allied to the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) in Turkey.
"The questions about fighting terrorism should be directed at the West above all. Right now, we are the ones fighting the IS [Daesh]. The United States sometimes provide air support, but, unfortunately, we see the IS armed with weapons produced in the West. Of course, they [US] do not say they support the IS, but we see that half of their weapon airdrops end up with the Kurds and half with the IS," Erdogan said in an interview with the Israeli Channel 2 broadcaster.
In late September, reports emerged of the United States supplying Kurdish militias, namely the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), with light arms and other weapons. SDF are currently advancing on the self-proclaimed Daesh capital of Raqqa.
