European countries should be more positive about Donald Trump’s election as US President, because Trump has good deal-making skills, which could provide new opportunities for Europe, UK Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson said on Monday.

BRUSSELS (Sputnik) — On November 8, Trump won the 2016 US presidential election with 290 electoral votes, while his rival Hillary Clinton received 232 votes despite winning the popular vote by a margin of some 200,000.

"Donald Trump is a deal-maker, and I think that could be a good thing for Britain, but it could also be a good thing for Europe," Johnson told journalists before a meeting of EU Foreign Ministers.

He stressed that it was important "not to prejudge the President-elect or his Administration" since it was only a few days after election.

"I think we all need to wait and see what they [Trump’s Administration] come up with, but I think we should regard it as a moment of opportunity," Johnson added.
