Russian President Vladimir Putin will have an opportunity to hold a meeting with outgoing US President Barack Obama on the sidelines of the upcoming Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in Peru in November, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Thursday.

NEW YORK (Sputnik) — The APEC summit is expected to take place in Lima, Peru on November 19-20.

"We are preparing Putin's visit to APEC summit in Peru. President Obama will also visit the event in Peru. Though, a possibility of the separate meeting is not currently under discussion, it is possible to assume with confidence that they somehow will have an opportunity to talk," Peskov told reporters in New York.

Throughout November 11-30, New York will be hosting The World Chess Championship Match between Magnus Carlsen of Norway and Russian Sergei Karjakin. Peskov is attending the championship as the chairman of the Board of Trustees of Russian Chess Federation.

"Russia's position is consistent, President Putin's position is well known, it is consistent, it is quite flexible, but flexibility has limits. Putin is a supporter of good relations, the improvement of our relations. We will see how reciprocal these feelings are," Peskov told journalists.
