Senior Adviser to UN Special Envoy for Syria Jan Egeland said that there were no contacts between US President-elect Donald Trump and the United Nations over Syrian settlement.

GENEVA (Sputnik) — There have been no contacts between US President-elect Donald Trump and the United Nations over Syrian settlement so far, Senior Adviser to UN Special Envoy for Syria Jan Egeland said Thursday.

"No, except the US was as active and engaged today in the Task Force as it was last week," Egeland said answering the respective question.

Trump won the presidential race on Tuesday with 290 electoral votes against his rival Hillary Clinton's 232. His inauguration will take place on January 20, 2017.

Syria's civil war between government forces and a wide range of insurgents, including opposition groups and terrorists, such as Islamic State and Jabhat Fatah al Sham (also known as the Nusra Front, or Jabhat al-Nusra), both outlawed in Russia, has raged for some five years and has claimed hundreds of thousands of lives.
