Donald Trump's presidency may lead to the restart of dialogue with Russia on Syrian crisis resolution, Belgian lawmaker from the Parti Populaire (People's Party) Aldo Carcaci told Sputnik on Wednesday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — According to Carcaci, working together, the US, Russia and the EU could put an end to the Syrian war.

"We must talk with all parties. That is what Trump will do, starting with the Russians. The war in Syria must come to an end; it can only happen by collaborating frankly and openly between Russia – the USA and Europe. We can together bring this war to an end," Carcaci said.

Carcaci noted that there were no real efforts to pursue Daesh during the presidency of Barack Obama, moreover, he "let Daesh flourish and embellish with their horrible caliphate".

"Donald Trump is a pragmatic, so are the Russians," the lawmaker said.

Earlier in the day, Trump won the US presidential elections despite most of the analysts and opinion polls predicting his defeat to Democratic Party nominee Hillary Clinton.

The Syrian issue is a matter of much debate, as the country has been torn apart for about five years by an armed conflict between the government forces, opposition groups and terrorist organizations, including Daesh and Jabhat Fatah al Sham (formerly known as the Nusra Front), both outlawed in Russia and many other countries.
