Donald Trump Elected 45th US President (281)

The presidency of the US Republican Party's Donald Trump could become very fruitful and effective, Vatican's Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin said Wednesday.

ROME (Sputnik) — Trump triumphed over his Democratic challenger, Hillary Clinton, in the Tuesday presidential election.

"First of all, we respect the choice of the US nation. We congratulate new president, because his presidency could be really fruitful and we pray for Our Lord's support of his both for service in his country and for service for prosperity and peace in the whole world. I think that today we should work together to change the situation in the world," Parolin told the Radio Vaticana broadcaster, commenting the results of the US elections.

He added that it was too early to give estimates to Trump's presidency and the new US leader should be evaluated by his actions, but not the words.

Formally, US president is elected by the College of Electors that includes 538 specially elected persons. The Republican politician scored 276 electoral votes against Clinton's 218 votes out of 270 needed to win.
