MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The alpine nation joined EU sanctions against the Syrian government in 2011, imposing asset freezes and travel restrictions on individuals, and banning oil imports from the country, among other measures.

On Monday, the Swiss cabinet agreed to extend individual sanctions to 10 more people associated with the government in Damascus, in appendix 7 of the sanctions order. They come into effect on Tuesday.

Those on the list include intelligence official Maj. Gen. Adib Salameh, Artillery and Missile Directorate’s Maj. Gen. Hamid Tahir and Maj. Gen. Salbi Mawas, Army Brig. Gen. Aboud Hilweh, as well as Hilal Hilal, member of the Baath Party militia.

The governors of Damascus, Quneitra, Hama, and Idlib, as well as important Syrian businessman and banker Ammar Sharif have also been banned from traveling to the European Union and had any assets they might have in Swiss banks frozen.

They have been accused of supporting the Syrian government or participating in alleged repressions against Syrian civilians, including chemical and missiles attacks on civilian population.
