EU Commissioner Oettinger Apologizes for Describing the Chinese as 'Slit-Eyes'
BRUSSELS (Sputnik) —  Earlier this week, media reported that Oettinger referred to Chinese people as "slit-eyes" and "sly dogs" and labeled Belgium's region of Wallonia as a "micro-region run by communists that blocks Europe" while speaking at a business event in Hamburg.

"[EU] Commissioner cannot make such statements," Juncker told Le Soir newspaper, adding that all EU commissioners should avoid potentially risky remarks.

On Thursday, Oettinger apologized for his offensive remarks, stressing that he did not have any intention to offend anyone.
