WASHINGTON (Sputnik), Michael Hughes — Islamic extremism will never be vanquished unless the United States and Russia work together which will require the next president to change America’s antagonistic stance towards Moscow, US Congressman Dana Rohrabacher told Sputnik.
"There will be no defeat of radical Islam if Russia and the United States don’t cooperate," Rohrabacher said. "We will not have peace and stability in this world until the United States changes its hostile attitude towards Russia."
The United States and Russia planned on setting up a joint mechanism to coordinate military activities against terrorists in Syria, but hopes were dashed when a US-Russian brokered ceasefire collapsed in September.
Washington has persistently blamed the Syrian and Russian governments for the ongoing violence in Syria, citing airstrikes on civilians, while Moscow has argued that the United States has failed to separate the so-called moderate opposition from terrorist groups like al-Nusra Front and has attacked the Syrian army.
