Kremlin Blasts MI5's 'Russian Aggression' Claims as 'Unfounded and Unjustified'

Any accusations leveled at Russia without providing evidence are unsubstantiated, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Tuesday in commentary to the United Kingdom intelligence chief's claims of Russian aggression.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — MI5 Director General Andrew Parker alleged earlier in the day that Russia uses "increasingly aggressive" tactics, including "propaganda, espionage, subversion and cyberattacks" in pursuing its foreign policy abroad.

"These words are not true, we cannot agree with them. We have repeatedly commented on allegations of cyberattacks," Peskov told reporters.

He stressed that Parker's, US Vice President Joe Biden's or anyone else's words "until any evidence is provided… would be considered unfounded and unjustified."

Peskov admitted that "Russia is indeed using everything at its disposal, but … only within international laws to promote its interests overseas … and is guided in its actions by the principle of mutually beneficial relations."

The spokesman also called into question Western media's ability to obtain intelligence on President Vladimir Putin's plans for Syria after The Times claimed Russia was preparing a "major military assault" on the city of Aleppo.

The British newspaper relied on Western intelligence analysis in making its claim that Moscow planned to take advantage of an election season pause in the United States to secure a decisive victory in Aleppo.
