Iraqi Turkmen Demand Int'l Investigation of Daquq Airstrike on Civilians

The Turkmen, whose relatives fell victims to the October 21 airstrike on the Iraqi settlement of Daquq, ask the international experts to lead the investigation of the tragedy, citing the lack of trust to the Iraqi government, media reported Friday.

ANKARA (Sputnik) — The US-led coalition has officially denied its involvement in the airstrike.

"The representatives of other countries found out about the incident earlier than our authorities. We cannot trust the government that is unable to verify the affiliation of the aircraft that carried out the strike… We demand that the international experts investigate this incident," local resident Haidar Ahmed said, as quoted by the Turkish Anadolu news agency.

The airstrike, registered by the Russian reconnaissance on October 21, resulted in the deaths of up to 20 civilians, including women and children, who participated in the mourning procession.
