Turkey and Russia maintain regular contact on the situation in Mosul amid an ongoing campaign to retake the Iraqi city from Daesh terrorist group, a diplomatic source told RIA Novosti on Friday.

ANKARA (Sputnik) — Iraqi Prime Minister Haider Abadi announced on Monday a full-scale advance on Mosul, with the Iraqi army and Kurdish Peshmerga forces seeking to drive Daesh terrorists out with aerial support from the US-led international coalition.

"Ankara and Moscow are in regular contact on the situation in Mosul. We discuss this topic. Turkey is concerned about the situation there," the source said in Ankara.

According to local media, about 30,000 Iraqi soldiers and 4,000 Kurdish Peshmerga fighters are taking part in the operation, backed by airstrikes carried out by the US-led international coalition.
