UNITED NATIONS (Sputnik) — The United Nations Security Council issued a statement condemning North Korea’s unsuccessful launch of a ballistic missile late last week.

“The members of the Security Council strongly condemned the most recent failed ballistic missile launch conducted by the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea on 14 October 2016,” the statement on Monday said. “This attempted launch is in grave violation of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea’s international obligations under United Nations Security Council resolutions.”

The statement follows news earlier Monday that the US Strategic Command had detected what is believed to have been Pyongyang’s failed launch in northwestern North Korea of a Musudan intermediate-range ballistic missile that did not pose threat to North America.
