The United States is not aware that Russia has established any open corridors in the Syrian city of Aleppo to facilitate the safe evacuation of residents, a US Department of State official told Sputnik on Friday.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — On Thursday, Lt. Gen. Sergei Rudskoy, chief of the Russian General Staff's Main Operational Directorate, said seven humanitarian corridors were opened to allow residents to safely evacuate the besieged eastern part of Aleppo.

"We are unaware of any open humanitarian corridors in Aleppo," the official stated.

Earlier on Friday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that the renewal of a ceasefire in Syria depends on whether stakeholders are willing to live up to UN Security Council resolutions that call for an end to the violence and humanitarian access to populations in need, along with the resumption of a political process.

Russia, the United States, Saudi Arabia and Turkey, among other regional powers, are expected in Lausanne, Switzerland on Saturday to discuss reviving the ceasefire in Syria.

Senior US and Russian officials, however, have expressed skepticism that they will achieve any major breakthroughs.
