Moscow never sought worsening of relations with Washington and, on the contrary, would like to have friendly ties with the "great country", President Vladimir Putin said.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Russia is concerned over the deterioration of the Moscow-Washington relations, and would like to have friendly relations with such a "great country," Russian President Vladimir Putin said Wednesday.

"We are concerned over the worsening of the Russia-US relations. This is not our choice. We never sought this, on the contrary, we would like to have good relations with such a huge, great country, with the world’s leading economy," Putin said at the "Russia Calling!" forum.

Russia will work with any elected president of the United States if they show willingness to work with Moscow, Putin said.

"The people of the United States will take the choice they consider necessary, and in any case we shall work with any US leader… If, of course, the US leader wants to work with us," he said.

The Russian president added that all members of the US presidential campaign were abusing the anti-Russia rhetoric.
