The speaker of Ukraine's parliament said Monday he wanted to renew debate on introducing a visa regime with Russia.

KIEV (Sputnik) — Verkhovna Rada speaker Andriy Parubiy said he introduced the draft resolution to abolish a bilateral agreement on visa-free travel between Ukraine and Russia earlier this year.

"Perhaps it makes sense for us today to raise the issue and return to the introduction of a visa regime with Russia," Parubiy said at a meeting between the leaders of parliamentary factions.

Addressing the latest detention of a Ukrainian citizen in Russia on charges of espionage, the senior lawmaker called for more forceful reactions and tightened sanctions against Russia.
