It is necessary to close the Syrian-Turkish border and thus put an end to the influx of terrorists to achieve a ceasefire in Syria, Syrian Envoy to the United Nations Bashar Jaafari said on Friday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Syria has been mired in civil war since 2011, with government forces loyal to President Bashar Assad fighting a number of opposition factions and extremist groups. The United States has been supporting the so-called "moderate" opposition forces in Syria, while Russia has been supporting Syria's legitimate authorities.

Turkey Should Not Base Foreign Policy on Assad as Enemy

"We need not only a ceasefire in Aleppo, we need a ceasefire, cessation of hostilities all over Syria. But to do so we need to block the border with Turkey and obligate the Turkish government to the influx of terrorists coming from all over the world through the Turkish-Syrian border," Jaafari told RT broadcaster.

He pointed out that it would not be possible to help Syrians in Aleppo as well as in other parts of the country unless Turkey, the United States, Israel, Saudi Arabia and Great Britain did not stop the influx of terrorists to Syria.

Jaafari also commented on the possible US plan B implying to overthrow Syrian President Bashar Assad.

"This is a dirty game undertaken by some American officials. Number one – they are personalizing the conflict in Syria by talking about the Syrian president in the way they do, in an impolite way… This is a very sarcastic and simplified approach… Number two – the United States never had plan A to move to plan B," the diplomat said.
