Fallout Vacation: Chernobyl and Fukushima Become Tourist Attractions
VIENNA (Sputnik), Alexander Mosesov – On Monday, Turkish Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Berat Albayrak said Metsamor Nuclear Power Plant must be closed as the world could not risk another catastrophe following the Chernobyl disaster.

"We are living in this country and the NPP is being used in our country as well. So it is most important for us to be sure that the security and safety standards are on the highest level. So the statement of the Turkish minister has nothing to do with reality, it [the statement] is politics, not a professional assessment," Galstyan said.

The deputy minister added that Metsamor was tested by an independent organization to ensure that post-Fukushima standards of security and safety are fulfilled.

Armenia's Metsamor plant, which is located 16 kilometers (10 miles) from the Turkish border, was built in 1970 with the first unit launched in 1976.
