WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — When asked about the current status of the consultations between the United States and Russia on Syria, Toner said, "There was nothing to report on since Friday."
"He [Kerry] has not spoken with Foreign Minister Lavrov since Friday," the spokesperson stated.
Since March 2011, government forces loyal to Syrian President Bashar Assad have been fighting opposition factions and extremist organizations, including the Islamic State terror group, which is outlawed in Russia.
On September 9, Lavrov and Kerry presented a new plan to regulate the conflict in Syria, which included a ceasefire that went into effect on September 12.
However, the cessation of hostilities was declared ineffective because of repeated violations of the ceasefire.
