Canada Seeks to Strengthen Bilateral Business Ties With China - Trudeau
BEIJING (Sputnik) – China and Canada have started preliminary discussions on a possible bilateral free trade agreement, Chinese Premier Li Keqiang announced.

"We have reached many new consensuses in economic and trade area," Li said on Thursday, as quoted by Xinhua news agency, after signing several bilateral agreements with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. "We have agreed to establish high-level financial dialogue mechanism, and annual meeting mechanism between the two foreign ministers," Li added.

The Chinese premier is currently on a visit to Canada.

Last month, Li announced that China and Canada had agreed to prepare a feasibility study for a free trade zone between the two countries in the near future.

According to a poll carried out by the EKOS Research Associates in August, a growing number of Canadians would back a free trade deal with China. The poll revealed that 46 percent of Canadians would support the agreement, which is 10 percent more than in 2014.
