Czech President Milos Zeman said Tuesday he would vote for US Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump if he were a US citizen, in a video interview with local media.

PRAGUE, September 20 (Sputnik) — He said that Democrat candidate Hillary Clinton, who has been endorsed by the incumbent US president, looked set to continue Barack Obama’s policy course toward the Middle East.

"With due respect to Barack Obama, his name has been tainted by a series of failures. He plunged the whole Middle East into chaos and left it an open wound that has not been healing well," Zeman said.

"I don't want to interfere with US private matters, but if I were a US citizen I would indeed vote for Donald Trump," Zeman told the Czech news website Idnes.

Contrarily, Zeman compared the outspoken Republican contender to Ronald Reagan who, he said, turned out to be one of the greatest US presidents despite not being taken seriously at first.
