The Syrian government has approved the Russian-US agreement that presupposes a ceasefire in the Arab republic, state-run news agency SANA reported on Saturday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Damascus has been informed of the deal, agreed to it and the cessation of hostilities will be applied to the city of Aleppo for humanitarian purposes, the agency said, citing its sources informed with the situation.

On Friday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and US Secretary of State John Kerry announced a new plan aimed at reducing violence in Syria, which includes a new nationwide ceasefire starting on September 12.
