The Syrian opposition's High Negotiations Committee (HNC) hopes country's humanitarian problems will be solved amid the US-Russia agreement, HNC spokeswoman Bassma Kodmani said Saturday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and US Secretary of State John Kerry met in Geneva overnight. They agreed on a new nationwide ceasefire for Syria, starting from Monday.

"We hope this will be the beginning of the end of the civilians’ ordeal. We welcome the deal if it is going to be enforced," Kodmani said in a statement.

She added that the opposition is "absolutely in favour of" the cessation of hostilities.
