Top US Democrat Sure 'It is the Russians' Behind ‘Broad’ Cyberattack

US House Democratic Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi argued on Thursday she is certain Russia was behind the broad scale cyber attacks against the Democratic Party’s campaign institutions.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) —Pelosi said she knows “for sure it is the Russians,” and likened the hack to “an electronic Watergate.”

“I know it [the cyber attack] is broad in terms of affecting the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee [DCCC]…and that it is the Russians,” Pelosi told reporters in a press conference.

In July, the Democratic National Committee (DNC) was subject to a cyber intrusion and massive email leak that Democratic officials immediately blamed on Russian hackers. Moscow has called the allegation “absurd.”

On Wednesday, US media reported that the hack was more widespread than previously thought, targeting the DNC, the DCCC, and at least 100 party officials.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation has taken the lead in determining the source and scope of the hack. The agency has not publicly released any conclusions.

The White House said earlier in August that the FBI has not yet released any particular results of its probe into the DNC emails' hack.
