Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stressed the need to avoid new violence and restart peace talks during phone talks with his Yemeni counterpart Abdel Malek Mekhlafi, the Russian Foreign Ministry said Thursday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Yemen has been engulfed in a military conflict between the government headed by President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi and Houthi rebels, the country’s main opposition force, which have been supported by army units loyal to former Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh, since 2014.

"Lavrov stressed the need to prevent new outbreaks of violence, to resume negotiations in the near future in the interest of a comprehensive settlement of the conflict in friendly Yemen, taking into account the views of all its leading political forces," the ministry said in a statement.
