Russia expects to see progress on the issue of intra-Syrian talks after the upcoming meeting with UN and US representatives in Geneva, Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov said Monday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Syria has been mired in civil war since 2011, with government forces loyal to President Bashar Assad fighting a number of opposition factions and extremist groups. On February 27, a US-Russia brokered ceasefire came into force in Syria.

"We have a constructive approach to the upcoming meeting. We expect progress in the intra-Syrian process," Gatilov told reporters.

Earlier on Sunday, the Syrian Foreign Ministry said that Damascus is ready for the next round of intra-Syrian peace talks without any preliminary conditions.
