OSCE Invites Russia to Observe US Presidential Election

The Russian Central Election Commission (CEC) has received an invitation from the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe's (OSCE) Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) to participate as observers in the US presidential election, media reported Monday.

MOSCOW, (Sputnik) — The Russian Izvestia newspaper said that the OSCE ODIHR delegation would total 500 people and CEC expects it would include at least 10 Russian observers.

The publication added that the CEC had already begun working on the selection of persons with adequate knowledge of the English language and professional political experience in international observation.

CEC member Vasily Likhachev told the publication that the accreditation for the Russian observers from the United States is still pending, but that "given the constant pressure on Russia, the news takes on political significance."

The US presidential elections are scheduled for November 8.
