MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Late on Friday, Turkish authorities said that an attempted coup took place in the country. The coup was suppressed several hours later.

"Israel and Turkey recently agreed on a reconciliation process… It is our assumption that this process will continue regardless of the dramatic events in Turkey over the weekend," Netanyahu stated at the weekly cabinet meeting, as quoted by the Haaretz newspaper.

On June 28, Israel and Turkey signed an agreement to normalize relations, that deteriorated six years ago, when 9 Turkish civilians died during a raid by Israeli commandos on the Mavi Marmara flotilla to Gaza Strip.
