US Assistant Secretary for European and Eurasian Affairs Victoria Nuland will travel to Ukraine and Russia on June 21 to discuss the crisis in Ukraine’s east with the two countries’ authorities, the US Department of State said in a press release on Tuesday.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Following the visit to Ukraine, Nuland will depart for Moscow to discuss the Ukrainian crisis with Russian officials, according to the State Department.

"On June 21, Assistant Secretary for European and Eurasian Affairs Victoria Nuland will travel to Kyiv, Ukraine, to meet with senior Ukrainian government officials to discuss bilateral and regional issues, including reform priorities and Minsk implementation," the release stated.

Earlier in the day, US Ambassador to Russia John Tefft said that Nuland may visit Moscow in the near future.

In February 2015, a peace agreement was signed between Ukraine’s conflicting sides in the Belarusian capital of Minsk, after talks of the Normandy Four countries, comprising Russia, Germany, Ukraine and France. The deal stipulates a full ceasefire, weapons withdrawal from the line of contact in eastern Ukraine, an all-for-all prisoner exchange and constitutional reforms, which would give a special status to the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Lugansk people’s republics.
